ITINERARY

Day 1: Welcome

A nonstop flight from Frankfurt will take you above the Arctic Circle to Tromsø in Northern Norway. With a little luck, you will experience an amazing approach from your airplane seat. Snow-capped mountains surround deep blue fjords and in between you can see the sparkling lights of small villages. At the airport you will be welcomed and transferred into the city. While your luggage is taken care of and brought aboard our ship, you have some time for a stroll through the city. In the afternoon we will welcome you on board the MS Togo. In the evening, you start your Lofoten cruise and again, with a bit of luck, you'll see your first polar lights dancing for you in the sky.

Day 2 - 7: Norway Cruise in the Arctic light

The Lofoten region in Fylke Nordland is considered one of the most scenic regions in Northern Europe. The archipelago comprises some 80 islands and amazes with wide, deep blue fjords, snow-covered mountains, the bluish light of the Norwegian winter season and rugged coasts. The spectacular landscape in the dramatic winter light offers a sheer endless number of photo opportunities. In the evening, with a little luck, another highlight will be added - the aurora. The MS Togo will dock in small fishing villages and the time of year will provide great light conditions for taking pictures. Great food, interesting lectures and workshops on board complete the program.

Day 8: Travel home

After breakfast on board, it's time to say goodbye to your floating home of the last days. Depending on the time of our flight back to Frankfurt, you still have the opportunity to stroll through Tromsø and buy a few souvenirs. Then it's time for the transfer to the airport and an eventful journey is coming to an end. Goodbye!

About the MS Togo

The expedition ship MS Togo was built in 1965 at the Dunston Shipyard in Thorne, Yorkshire, and was used until 1997 as a high-sea trawler. She has a turbulent past with several owner changes and name changes like Bosten Viking or Bob Read. Her current name patron is the famous Husky Togo. Along with Balto he graduated from the "serum run to nome," which went down in the history of Alaska. After the conversion of the MS Togo in 2002 to a private yacht she sailed the Baltic, the Norwegian fjords and other lake areas of Europe. The MS Togo is a real gem in the classic style. At first glance, you might consider her a sister ship of the MS Togo, only on closer inspection you can see the differences.

The MS Togo has cozy and functional 2-bed cabins, which have two separate beds and are equipped with a very nice en suit bathroom (cabin 4 with a double bed). The other 2-bed cabin (No. 7, ceiling height 1.75 m) and the two single cabins share a bathroom with shower and toilet. Meals are served in the small dining room. In the cozy salon you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and listen to the exciting lectures of the guides. From the various viewing areas, you have excellent views of the vast Arctic landscapes. The bridge is open and as a visitor you are welcome to visit.

In 2018 the MS Togo was expanded to an exquisite expedition ship. In the upcoming Arctic season, the MS Togo will be used for POLAR cruises on various Greenland and Spitsbergen trips . With its maritime charm, agility and shallow draft, the MS Togo is a perfect Arctic exploration vessel for a small, private group.

How physical is this workshop/tour?

Rating for Arctic: Fantastic Fjords & Northern Lights:

This photo tour is on the easy side when it comes to walking. We will spend a lot of time on the ship and while we will have several land excursions, they will all be more walks than hikes.

Legend:
easy (mostly in and around the classroom)
light (some walks, mostly easy terrain, no flip-flops please)
moderate (includes usually optional walks over mixed terrain, suitable shoes and clothing required if not mentioned otherwise)
heavy (includes trekking, hiking boots, altitude under about 10,000 ft)
very heavy (think trekking at altitude, Himalayan tours)
